Tips for Hanging a Garden or Pedestrian Gate
Fitting Allowances
See your order for details on fixing allowances. If not stated, use the following guide.
We make the following fitting allowances on gates:
Ground clearance – usually 65 mm, may need to be more to accommodate a slope.
Gravity latch – distance between edge of gate and latch post – 30 mm
Slide latch – distance between edge of gate and latch post – 15 mm
Security lock –distance between edge of gate and latch post – 10mm
12mm hinge spigots - from back edge of spigot to edge of gate - 55 mm – 100 mm adjustable on eyebolt
16mm hinge spigots – from back edge of spigot to edge of gate – 80 mm – 110 mm adjustable on eyebolt.
Installation of Garden Gate
1. Decide upon your ground clearance and support the gate with a piece of wood or similar. Offer the gate up and check that it will fit. Use a level to determined that the gate sits level in the opening.
3. Assemble the top hinge spigot and eyebolt. Turn upside down to prevent the gate being lifted off the hinges. Position the hinge spigot in place, put the eyebolt through the gate and when you are happy with the position, mark the fixing holes and fix in place as for the lower spigots.
6. Use the nuts on the eyebolt to adjust top and bottom if the gate is not quite level. Tighten up all bolts.
Stand back and enjoy your new gate.
Any problems, please call The Great Gate Company on 01761 568084.
4. Adjust the nuts of the eyebolts so that the gate is correctly positioned with
respect to the fixing allowances for the latch and the space available.
5. Assemble the latch and mark the fixing holes for the latch keeper. Fix in place.
2. Put the bottom eyebolt through the hole of the gate. Put over the hinge spigot
and mark the fixing holes for the hinge spigot. Fix the hinge spigot in place
using the anchor bolts. Anchor bolts do not need rawl plugs, but remember to use
a drill 2 mm smaller than the size shown on the head of the bolt. Do not over tighten
the bolts until you are happy with the position. If it is a double gate set the
other hinge spigot in position, ensure that the t
wo spigots are level.
